Vela: experimenting with sound
There are multiple musical projects that unveil the great creativity and versatility that he has as an artist and those in the future that will define his path.
It’s been approximately 17 years since initially met Eduardo Vela. We started sharing the stage and to this day, I have the pleasure to consider him one of my close friends.
Many of his followers have been asking about his actual situation in the world of music. After our last photo shoot (which we did before all the chaos we are now living started) I decided to interview him about this topic via video-call.
FA- Let’s start with something everyone’s been asking, and I will resume it in just one word: Aurum.
EV- Honestly, we don’t have any plans for the moment. There has been continuous communication between each other, but right now the three of us are focused on diverse activities, inside the music scene, of course. That’s all I could share with you because there’s nothing more really, but we’ll see what happens.
FA- Got it. Now let’s talk about El Glum, one of your current projects I have seen you working. How did it start?. How will you define it?.
EV- It’s a personal experiment. I took some songs that I had never used in the past because I didn’t feel that they fitted in a place or specific situation by the time I created them. So, recently I concluded them, put some voice in and tested myself with all the recording stuff.
FA- In fact, what you are doing is something we have been seeing more frequently with international artists like Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas. They both make their music in their bedroom.
EV- That’s right. I created most of my material in the same way. I have learned to use different types of software on my computer, and the result was all these songs.
FA- When it comes to the media, I have seen that El Glum is beginning to get known and listened to in different parts of the world.
EV- It’s been amazing the reach it has accomplished. I tried managing everything from anonymity. I sent some emails to various places that could be interested in my music, and without expectations, they ended up contacting me in a very positive way. Now El Glum is being listened to on different digital stations around other countries with pretty good acceptance (Click here to watch El Glum’s video titled Presente).
FA- Are there any plans to see El Glum live once our current situation improve?
EV- I would love that eventually. It wasn’t the original plan, but once I develop more songs I will reunite some friends that can support me on stage and we’ll see where all of this goes.
FA- Another interesting project you have been working on is Flagtaf, with Luke Castillo.
EV- Luke and I go way back. We have musically collaborated before. The idea of Flagstaf was generated organically. We talked about creating something together, so we prepared a rehearsal without having a notion of what will come out of it. The result was our first single called Llamas, currently available on numerous digital platforms and Youtube. We have more material on the way and again, once this situation gets better, we would like to perform live.
FA- Everything suggests you will be very active.
EV- Yes, indeed. There are some surprises on the way, but I can’t share more details. I would like to thank all the people that have been supporting me through all these years, wishing them the best, and hopefully, we’ll be seeing each other shortly in better conditions.
